Winter at the High Plains

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Just because summer is over, there is no reason that the fun should end… and it never does here at the High Plains Drift Inn! Join us for a horse ride in the snow or toast your toes by a big fire. One nice thing about our dry climate is that if the sun comes out, even a winter day can be quite pleasant. So we offer horse riding and skeet shooting year round.

HORSE RIDING

Snow on the ground? That doesn’t stop us from riding horses! We have taken many trips around the ranch and in the foothills with snow on the ground. The horses love it and as long as you wear warm clothes, we love it too!

SKIING

In addition to activities on the ranch, we are also located in a great place for skiing. There are three downhill ski resorts near us. Wolf Creek, Monarch and Taos ski resorts. There are also several nice places to cross country ski in the area. Wake up one morning, head over to the ski slopes, and come back to a nice hot shower and a warm cabin!

The Great Sand Dunes is also a nice place to visit in the winter with lots of good hills to sled down and the ice formations at Zapata falls are especially nice.
