High Plains Cockapoos

Our cockapoos are Gretel and Auggie, and yes, they are as silly as their names imply. 🙂 These little dogs are full of mischief and smart as whips.

Gretal

Gretal is a scrappy little girl that is always ready for any adventure. You can certainly see the cocker spaniel attitude strongly in her. Rain or shine, snow or mud, she is game for a walk and some ball throwing. Quite often she will come in from her adventures looking like she has been hanging out with Mike Roe on Dirty Jobs. But unlike a German Shepherd, she is a lot easier to throw in the tub and give a bath to. She is a perfect little copilot and never gets motion sickness on road trips.

Gretal is really smart – I (Eleeshea), saw potential early in her life and began teaching her tricks. She was so athletic I wanted to teach her something that would let her natural skills shine. I began teaching her to jump through my arms that I hold in a loop. Even though I am not her mommy she responded quickly and with enthusiasm. This shows how great these dogs are as pets for the whole family; they will have a favorite person but they love to please everyone. Since then, her mom has taught her several tricks – she is smart as a whip.

Auggie

Awwwggie! Is what his name should be 🙂 Auggie is a sweetie. Everyone just naturally loves Auggie, he is just too loveable not to! He and Gretal seem to be hip to the new ways and have switched traditional gender rolls, hahaha! If Gretal is the go-getter, Auggie is the cuddle bug. His favorite activity is watching movies while laying on his mom’s lap in the big lazy boy. His hair is as soft as silk, its a shame he is a boy because his hair is perfect for bows and ribbons and barrettes. 🙂

There isn’t much point in putting him outside alone, Gretal will go on grand adventures and do cool stuff but Auggie will sit on the door step and feel picked on. He loves to go with mom on walks and chase toys but he sees no point in being exposed to the elements alone. He is a champion road buddy and loves to take naps while his mom runs her errands.

Auggie is learning to use his incredible canine nose to search for hidden items. The results are mixed at the moment though because there are a lot of movies he is trying to catch up on.

Cockapoos have hair that is virtually non shedding and hypoallergenic. Since it doesn’t shed, it continues to grow longer and longer. They will need to have their hair trimmed at minimum twice a year, at this rate you will need to brush them to keep the hair from getting knots in it. If you trim them more often you can forgo the brushing.
